I am going to Peru in a month and have NO IDEA what tripod to take... I have a Manfrotto 190 x pro b but it's quite heavy in terms of walking up a mountain side!... So, do I take a Gorilla Pod SLR Zoom or would I be better off just getting some light legs? Really not sure!!...
This would be really lovely, but i'm thinking it would cost me a load of cash!!...
So, what's it to be? A gorilla? No tripod?
Help!...
Manfrotto Tripods GorillaPod
To much choice!
Incidentally - while I was looking at tripods, I had a quick look at the Lowepro Slingshot 200 on Amazon... Here is the description they give.
"Product Description
Perfect for photojournalists, the SlingShot 200 AW uses a unique sling design to go from carry mode to ready mode in just seconds. Carried comfortably on the back, it easily rotates to the front so you can get to your camera quickly. The SlingShot 200 AW holds an SLR with mid-range zoom lens attached 34 extra lenses, cables and accessories and has a full access lid to make loading it a snap. This feature-rich bag also includes a built-in memory card pouch, micro fiber LCD cloth and two generous organizer pockets. It's certain to surprise even the most demanding photojournalists. "

I have been looking for a new tripod as well. I do alot of back hill hikeing and need a sturdy tripod with it's own carrying straps or case. My camera bag is a "Tamrac" SAS backback, I would be lost without it. I found that it is a big hassle trying to carry around a tripod by hand without a strap but you can buy one of the camping chairs with it's own carrying bag that has a single shoulder strap, leave the chair in the car, put your tripod in the bag and off you go. Don't forget your water!
I would like to find a high quality tripod with it's own carry case & strap

I have a few bags - i'm a bit of a bag collector, though today I found myself needing [not wanting!] needing a different one. I want a smaller bag than the lowepro compurover aw to take hiking. Without a laptop bit, I was thinking the Slingshot AW 200 or 300... not sure
Carbon legs would be lovely! But SO exy!... Rich, thanks for dropping by.

You guyzez.
And holy dooley! THIRTY FOUR LENSES?! What on earth?! Have you seen this bag?
Also... *doesn't know what a tardis is*
And gorilla pods are cool, I want a little one to stick on my arm.
Ohhh yeah.
And and also, that other tripod that you want that starts with M that you said was pricey.. looks awesome.
That is all.
eeek I'm in the market for a new tripod also! the one I have serves me ok, but now I've got something heavier and more expensive strapped to the top of it, I worry its not sturdy enough! 2 much choice ....eeek and some of the prices OMG!! I did get a gorrilapod with my new camera and I'd recommend one fo them just to shove in your bag it won't take up much room but pretty useful in some instances.
Maybe I should stop being such a scaredy cat with my new kit, I phoned up today and got it put on my contents insurance so at least I can replace it now if the worst were to happen! not easy to sort out if your in Peru at the time though!!! will be interested to see what you choose!
