Can anyone say "Backup" ...Yeah, so, when your fileserver decides that it would be better off as a healthy desert or, maybe as a cat door in an old homestead instead of being a fileserver - that's when the problems start. We have a Dell poweredge 2850 Running two Promise V-Trak raid arrays... Well, we see that a disk has gone to fail on the offline array, no problem, down the array and pull the disk [which we didn't really need to do, but thought we would anyway..] So, the array powers down, but, takes the live fileserver with it... this is when the "fun" starts... 200 computers immediately lock up - files on the now "sleeping" array have become stuck somewhere between the world as we know it and that "other" world... you know, the one where files go to die...
So, dead files, corrupt array, stuffed second array... What does all this mean?... TIRED SUPPORT STAFF!
It's 06:21am on Friday morning... My eyes are heavy and I have a whole day ahead of me... I should be curled up in a warm bed at this point... I'm not, i'm at my desk... I need a break from staring at a screen.
I think quote of the morning goes to me... "look, if we just set the building on fire, they won't notice they can't get to their files?..."
