Stanstead... I don't like flying, for those that know me, so when mitchy turned to me after chatting to a couple of elderly people on our same flight with Air Cubana (worst safety record up until early 90's - now gt the planes from air europa and fine) and said "it's ok, at least we wont die alone" ...I was filled with confidence!
The flight was fine, if you're into having your legs wrapped around your head, and not having a screen / inflight entertainment anywhere close (there were screens - strategically positioned around so that nobody could see them) they played three movies, don't recall what they were, anyways, what I do recall about the inflight entertainmnt was that once all the movies had finished and people were trying to sleep, the tv's all went all ibiza (bad greek clubbing island full of british) on us... starting to flash one at a time, pulsing to a silent disco beat... white to black and then through the rainbow with the one in the centre looking something like something you would see in doctor who... it was all very amusing... sort of like christmas lights on crack...
We arrived and after waiting in Holguin for 45 minutes we made our way to Havana....
You know, I really can't be bothered with all this... I HIGHLY ADVISE GOING TO CUBA...
We went HAVANA - SANTA CLARA - TRINIDAD (brilliant!) - HAVANA on the way to VINALES (highlight of trip!) and then back to HAVANA... We travelled on the Viazul busses, but the local busses actually lok better!! ...it's also a good idea to ask tour operators if they have a cab going to another town as it can be the same price as a bus but you get to say where you go etc...
....fly Air Cubana - it's loads cheaper, direct and for the sake of cramped legs and disco tv's on crack oh and sleeping flight attendants (not as bad as BA on the way back from Paris!!!) for a few hours... hell, why not!?
Stay in Casa Particulres - they are pretty cool... and cheap...if that's what you're after...
Cuban people are great and the place is warm and very musical...
Go there... before america does...
So, Cuba:

if what you mean with "america" is the USA i totally agree with you...hopefully the US never get Cuba!!
I like Americans, just not all of American policy.. it is a special place, Cuba, for now.. can I just add that when I say the "US" I mean basically any country that would go in and change Cuba (not seeing one MacDonalds or Starbucks in a place like that is really refreshing) I hope my meaning doesn't go astray.
